I'm surprised and confused that I'm the first one to do this, but here goes:
I miss nationals. Three years ago (Virginia), I was scared and uncertain about the prospect of a week long convention. Two years ago (Missou), I was the girl who fell in front of testing the first day and spent the rest of the week in a wheelchair (and who won the community service award). And this last year, I was the captain of the cape-wearing Upper Certamen team from Wisconsin.
So. What's you all's favorite convention moment? Obviously each convention has a highlight a day, but if you had to choose just one moment where everything seemed right and you thought, "This is what the JCL is all about. This is why I pay good money to walk around a hot campus and have a (ridiculously early) bedtime. This is it."
For me, there are two: This year, at the last G.A, my scrapbook took 4th place. By the time they hit about 6th place I gave up on winning, so hearing "Wisconsin" was so thrilling. And the other was that downpour in Virginia right before the certamen matches.

Mine is similar: remember that downpour in VA, during which all the lights went out in the campus center for about ten seconds? My friends from AZ and I were out in the rain, jumping in puddles and splashing each other.

So either that, or rolling down the hill behind the library in KY.

Haha, the hill behind the library was AMAZING! Rolling down that was pretty much the best thing ever, no lie.

Last year at Missou I was the really bad Page from KY that kept handing the slips to the wrong people on stage so they had to get up and walk over to me to get them. lol.

That's why they made that joke at That's Entertainment about the rabbits replacing the Pages.

I fealt like an idiot. lol.

Almost all of it for me. I get to hang out with my Very Special Friend, Miss Kathryn from Kansas, for a whole week. Seeing as it's the only time we see each other...

I have, most unfortunately, missed convention the past 2 years, but I have been to the 4 previous conventions and each has special moments in my heart. Perhaps my favorite memory is giving the closing speech at one of the GAs at Virginia and having the stands erupt in cheers that I couldn't shut up for nearly a minute.
I definitely remember that downpour in Virginia though - we were so wet that it took the entire match to dry out!!

Hurrah for good speeches, that's awesome. I dunno if I'd even be coherent in front of that many people... (:
Now I have to tell my story about the deluge, though .... snowygal18 and I were so scared about certamen, because we just got drafted onto the team like the night before we had to play and neither of us had ever played Nationals before (neither of us had ever been to Nationals before ^_^), but then it rained, and rain = love, and we ended up having so much fun.
(Later I got to say "ejaculate." It was wrong, but still hilarious)

At Mizzou I was in charge of watching backpacks for my state's ultimate frisbee team. So I sat on the grass and watched the frisbee tournament with some folks, and it was just kind of perfect. Mizzou was when I started to feel really at home, I think.

'Course, Mizzou also had that 2nd certamen round, and a question about Tacitus that I missed. O the agony. *weep*

here's my story.

two years ago in VA my friends and I roomed next to our sponsor and teacher, the infamous mrs cipolone of the "cipolone chop". we had this huge cockroach who would just roam around the room. my one roommate and i (we were in a quad that year.. apparently the only quad on campus.. which was weird) affectionately named the bug Ned so that we could insist to the other girls that we couldn't kill him because we had named him.

however, coming back from getting a shower one day and almost stepping on Ned, we decided that something needed to be done. we couldn't kill him, but we didn't want him there. so we got dressed while Ned sat patiently and waited for us, and then we used our towels to shoo him from the room.

everything was going well. Ned didn't fight or go crazy or anything. he was making his way towards the exit when suddenly, out of nowhere, he veered quickly from his path and scurried under cipolone's door.

that night, cipolone's roommate, mrs. thorpe, told us to "watch out" because she thought there was "a burrow between our rooms" since we had found cockroaches in both of them. we're pretty sure she killed Ned too.

the end.

This years convention at IU was my first (home state!) And my favorite part was That's Entertainment with Mario. I also enjoyed the rush of being part of the goodie bag making process. Our line tied the bags together before we put the programs in so we had to put them together. And I suggest going to YouTube, they've got videos from nationals.

Yeah... I set up an NJCL group on youtube (it's creatively entitled NJCL)...if you've got anything to post, that would be amazing.

The Racketeers. Just try explaining them to someone who's never been to convention.
